SOMERS STUDIO: EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW

June 28, 2023

In case you missed it, last week I opened my very own studio space at home!! It’s called Somers Studio, and it is my little slice of light-filled HEAVEN on the Mornington Peninsula.

I love it so much, and I cannot wait to invite you and your most special loved ones here to make some magic!

But first, the full run down. More about the space, who it’s for and how you can book below!

Who is Somers Studio for?
It’s for YOU. New mamas, expecting mamas, mamas with toddlers, mamas with older babes, loved up couples, dads and daughters, dads and sons… you name it, we can capture it in the studio. It’s a smallish space, so we can’t fit families with more than one bubba and a sibling, but it’s perfect for making magic with your most loved people. Think newborn, maternity, motherhood, small family and more.

Perks of the studio
Even though I’m this biggest advocate of in-home sessions, I know that sometimes having a session at home just isn’t possible! And that’s where Somers Studio comes in. Your bright and airy lounge room substitute, haha!
It’s equipped with everything you could possibly need to feel totally at ease in front of the camera, including a dressing room space, kitchenette (and everything you could need for bottle warming!) baby change station, and super easy, stress-free parking.
Plus, you don’t have to worry about cleaning your house before your session, or the weather, or being out in the cold in winter!

How to book
To book a studio session (or if you have any questions) shoot me an email at hello@danielledobson.com.au or fill out my booking form here.

When do I book a newborn session?
Booking a newborn session is a little different to my other sessions, because we can’t predict exactly when baby will arrive! So what we do is essentially an open dated session – we pencil in your due date, and once bubba arrives we schedule your session for real. I always recommend getting in touch to book your newborn session when you’re in your first or second trimester. This reduces the likelihood of missing out on securing a spot for when bubba comes along.

How long after baby is born should we expect to book in?
I always say 7-10 days is ideal for those beautiful sleepy, squishy newborn photos. This might feel a little soon but if you’re prepared beforehand (more on this to come!) then all you have to think about is loving on your new babe!
Some families choose to wait a bit longer which is totally okay! We can play it by ear once baby has arrived as there is no hard and fast rule. It depends entirely on how you’re feeling and the kinds of moments you want to capture.

How do I prepare for my newborn session?
The bonus of having your newborn session at the Somers Studio means there’s very little you need to do to prepare beforehand – yay! The main thing to do is prepare your outfits, which I can help with. When you book with me you’ll get access to my online Client Guide, which gives you some tips and ideas on what to wear. You’ll also have access to my Client Wardrobe for mum and bubba, which includes a bunch of gorgeous outfits – easy! Having your outfits ready before baby is due makes preparing for your session a breeze!

Do we need to bring swaddles/wraps with us? Or anything else?
I have a beautiful collection of wraps, swaddles and knitted blankets which is available for all newborn sessions. I also have a hand-picked newborn wardrobe that includes rompers, bonnets, booties, bloomers and bodysuits – all included in your session fee. But of course if you have any of your own heirloom pieces or a treasured outfit then please bring that with you so we can include it in your session.

What if my baby doesn’t settle during the session?
Don’t panic mama, we’ll wait. We stop for lots of cuddles and milk breaks. Sometimes it takes 3 hours, sometimes it’s done in under 90 minutes. I’ve been doing newborn sessions for six years now and have never needed to reschedule because of an unsettled bubba.

When should I feed my baby?
I know it’s not always easy to plan your schedule in those early days, but if you can squeeze in a feed before your session it can be super helpful. It helps baby (and mama!) relax, and makes for deliciously milk-drunk, sleepy babes. Of course, we’ll just roll with whatever the day gives us! And if you’re feeding during the session, that’s gorgeous too.

So excited to welcome you to my brand new space. See you soon!!!
