Isolation got me busy thinking about some of the lovely little things you can do during your family session. Some of my couples and families feel a little shy behind the lens, and I find it really helps to have a few simple activities planned to get you all warmed up while we catch some really sweet (and natural!) family moments.
Tiffany, Andrew and little Ardy here were the total poster fam for family activities. Together, we read a book, played on the bed, sang songs (Andrew serenaded his wife and son under the smokey skies #dreamy), Ardy rode his new balance bike down to the beach and we even had a little splash in the waves.
You’d be surprised how much family fun we can fit in 60-90 minutes, especially when you’re running after an energetic toddler! But don’t go rushing out to buy a guitar or move to the beach just to have something to do during your session – I promise it’s the little things that fit in with YOUR family that make these shoots so special.
– Playing with a favourite toy (bikes, trucks, train sets, puzzles)
– Blowing bubbles!
– Reading a book on the couch or snugged up in bed
– Drawing, colouring or painting
– Walking around the block
– Getting baby dressed or wrapped in swaddles
– And anything else you really love doing together!
Having a little structure to your family session definitely helps ease the nerves, and once you get started you’ll find those 60-90 minutes just fly by with joy and love and laughter. Relaxed families = candid, natural family memories.
I’m now booking sessions all the way up to December 2020, so if you’re keen to get your clan together for a spot of family fun before the end of the year, please get in touch!
